lessons learned: share the journey

This post is part of the discussion series titled The Path to Healthy Living Through the Great Outdoors. The point of these topics is not for just me to just share them and move on, but rather to foster some discussion on these ideas and how they apply in "your" life. We're not sitting around the same table, but we can still have a discussion. Just leave your own thoughts in the comments below, or send them to me privately if you prefer. You'll find a complete list of all the topics at the end of this post.

As mentioned before, there will be both obstacles and celebrations to be had. In either situation, having the support of those around you can be crucial.

Having that circle of support from family or friends when facing challenges will get you through those rough times. They may not have the answers, but they can be there to support you and aid you in finding them.

In both hiking, and in life, there are times you going to be fine going solo, but there are times where having others around you will make for a more enjoyable or just plain better experience.

Granted, not everyone around you will be supportive of your changes, just as not everyone I know enjoys hiking and backpacking. They may be able to offer support in other ways, or you may simply need to turn to others in those situations. But having someone there can make a huge difference.

And in turn, be there for others. Your experiences and insight may be just what someone else on a similar path needs to get them over that next obstacle, or you may be the one that “gets it” when they’re celebrating some small victory on their journey. None of us need to isolate or insulate ourselves from others.

Feel free to share something from your own path here, be it good or bad. Did you reach out to others for either support or celebration? Let us know in the comments.

This following is the complete list of topics that make up The Path to Healthy Living Through the Great Outdoors discussion topics. While these topics are listed as a sort of progression, they can be viewed/discussed in any order. Titles will get an active link as they are posted.
